At AECOM, Elvira is constantly seeking ways to improve our services in order to offer the best design solutions to our clients, identifying and optimizing the opportunities, ensuring a satisfactory outcome for all parties involved in the process.

Elvira has developed a highly skilled and flexible team of Architects, Interior Designers and Consultants that deliver high quality design solutions for corporations, hoteliers, and universities in any part of the world.

Her main interest is to help design and build meaningful working environments that stay relevant throughout the years and evolve with the organizations, enabling talent to shine. The best measure of a great project in her opinion, is when the client finds new ways of adapt, customize and use creatively the designs that Elvira’s team have provided.

Her team offers a fully integrated service which helps organizations to see space as a strategic tool with the power to improve employees' performance and wellbeing, producing an obvious improvement within the organization.

Before Aecom, after some years as a freelancer, Elvira joined DEGW in 1998, where she has lead the Interior Design & Consultancy team since 2000. She was one of the 25 partners in DEGW ( 2004 – 2010)

Elvira has been actively involved in the development and implementation of “New Ways of working” and took part in the international team of the SANE research project of the European Commission (which explored the implications of applying the distributed workplace principles and the management by objectives on sustainability overall.

She worked during 4 years directly with the Secretary General of Universities of the Ministry of Education to improve the effectiveness of the learning processes through the use of interstitial and the social spaces, develop “Social Learning Spaces”. Elvira and her team organized an international conference about the SLSs that demonstrated the positive impact of the interstitial and the social spaces in the improvement in the transfer of knowledge, the generation of ideas and innovation and the strong connections that are crucial in the university experience. Speakers came from MIT, Aalvar Aalto School of architecture, Delft University and others.

CASE STUDY: Disruptive design to help solve the Business challenges created by disruptive agents.

Just as the Hotel sector has been turned upside down by the Airnbnb proposals, and the Taxi sector by Über, the workplace sector is facing its own disruptions: The We Work proposals are solving the many issues that regular workplace solutions were not responding to, but, at the same time, challenging the traditional approach to workplace strategy and design.

The regular leases and transactions are being forced to change and reformulate its proposals because of these new disrupting business models, but also for 2 additional reasons:

  • because all the organizations are implementing their Digital Transformations, which are changing the expectations for the workplace.
  • Because the fluctuations in the Headcounts are increasingly unpredictable.

In my speech I will present how we are addressing our client’s disruptions and challenges and helping them make the most out of their new opportunities through the application of AGILE processes, taken from the IT sector.
