Conference Overview

Autonomous technologies, new materials and comfort improvement are driving innovations in automotive seating. Safety and Comfort are still priority for auto manufactures and the most fundamental characteristics of a seat. Biomechanics and ergonomics advancements allows designers create new seat functions. The health and wellbeing of occupants are tracking through sensors and cameras.

The automotive industry overall is going through a multiple innovation, including design and technologies. Smart seating systems are the addition to these innovations. Due to advancement in technology, intelligent seats are implemented in both luxury, and mid-segment cars and commercial vehicles. Due to high demand in small and compact vehicle, smart seating systems are also integrated in these cars.

Long distance driving has led to increase of demand for durable and functionally-efficient seats. This has resulted in the appearance of seating sensing systems that provide real-time monitoring. For better safety manufacturers are integrating the automatic emergency braking systems in smart seats.

Due to autonomous driving, the interior of the vehicle is evolving nowadays and changing the nature of the vehicle seat. The interior becomes a lounge and seating is taking a wider role in it. Car seat is transforming to a rest area, entertainment centre or work station. Autonomous driving, car sharing and electromobility are leading to novel solutions that address safety, functionality, comfort and convenience in the autonomous interior. The connected seat as an inherent part of autonomous driving. Car can provide haptic or audio feedback to inform a driver during autonomous driving about the event that needs to be controlled. Autonomous cars might feature rotating or reclining seats.

New developments are also seen in materials, foams and covers. Companies are focusing on environment performance and emissions elimination.

The growing demand for space increase inside vehicles focused OEMs on seat covers. As a result, we meet improved seat covers, that increase the vehicle space and reduce weight and company costs.

AI, mixed and augmented reality are coming to the seating design market, visualization and predictive modelling. AI-enabled VR, AR and mixed reality became a reality in the car seat design. Virtual reality allows to use huge amount of high-dimensional data, transform car design, easily change the parameters of models, uniquely configure and visualize the seats, and quickly test many combinations.
